The Lunenburg Yacht Club has one of the best junior sailing programs in the Maritimes. Our sailors learn and race in a fun, safe environment among the famous islands of Mahone Bay. The philosophy of our program is to inspire a lifelong love of the water, to teach every student the skills to be a confident skipper, and to develop, among those sailors with the desire, a competitive race team.
We have a fleet of over 25 dinghies – and growing!. Over the years, we have produced some of the top racers in the province, with several of our sailors competing at international regattas. We also focus on leadership – our sailors learn to work together, to support each other, and to take initiative.
Taught by trained instructors, our program starts at age 5 and continues to age 18. It’s designed to adapt to the skill level, aspiration and goals of each sailor as they progress. The program runs full-day (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.), with one and two-week sessions available from the beginning of July to the end of August. And if you don’t want to pack lunch, sailors can order delicious meals at the clubhouse!
Here’s a list of the levels we offer:
Wet Feet Camp: Our youngest group – from ages 5 to 8 years old - spend their days getting their sea legs out on the water, learning boating skills, making crafts, and playing games.
Recreational Sailing: For beginners, age 8 and above, and any sailors with a few years under their belt who just want to have fun in Echoes and Optis.
Advanced Sailing: For sailors looking to advance within the CanSail program, or to refine their race skills, sailing Optis, 420 and Lasers.
Race Team: Our competitive program, specifically focused on racing skills and attending regattas.
Whether you have a child who has never been on a boat before, or an experienced sailor with her eyes on a future regatta, give them a summer they will never forget at the LYC!
