Enjoy rowing the beautiful islands and historic waterways of Mahone Bay, while experiencing the unique UNESCO World Heritage town of Lunenburg and surrounding area. Hosted by Lunenburg Yacht Club Rowing, with support from Row NS, each of the 3, 1-day Coastal Rowing Tours will let participants explore different areas of Mahone Bay - from the scenic islands, to the coastal inlets, to the famous Three Churches in the town of Mahone Bay! Rowing Tour Dates and Rowing Routes
Each of the 3, 1-day tours will follow a different route that will be decided upon each day by the tour leaders, taking into account weather and wind conditions, in consultation with participants. The routes noted below for each rowing tour are tentative and may change

Tour 1 - Saturday, July 26, 2025
Launching from LYC, we’ll row out to and through the islands of Indian Point, and then back to Andrew’s Island for a swim and picnic lunch. Distance approximately 16-18 km.

Tour 2 - Saturday, August 23, 2025
Launching from LYC, we’ll row down along the eastern shoreline of 2nd Peninsula, stopping for a break at Backman’s beach. We will then continue around the tip of the Peninsula stopping for lunch on Heckman’s Island. If weather, time and tides allow, we will row through the islands of ‘Back Harbour’ before returning back to LYC. Distance approximately 18-20 km.

Launching from LYC, we’ll row around Coveys Island, across to Andrews Island and then head into Mahone Harbour, towards the town of Mahone Bay. After a stop for lunch at Mahone Bay’s public wharfs, we will row back out of the harbour, taking time to look at Strum Island and the Westhaver Island Lighthouse. From there we will return to LYC. If weather, time and tides allow, we will row into Smelt Cove, under the bridge and back up along Herman’s Island to the Club. Distance approximately 16-18 km.

General Information
Your safety is our number one priority. Your tour will be accompanied by a stable, reliable safety boat, and our volunteer tour leader(s) have years of combined experience in these waters. Although the rowing will be at a recreational pace, and we will periodically regroup, boats need to be able to keep up and stick together. As a result, participants should keep the following in mind when considering this tour, for everyone’s comfort and safety.
• Participants should be prepared to row for 15-20 kms/day in unpredictable coastal waters with wind and waves
• Participants should be competent scullers with at least one full season of rowing experience
• Participants should be rowing regularly preceding the tour, and/or have a level of fitness and previous rowing experience to allow them to participate safely

Participation is restricted to members of RCA for insurance purposes.

Cost / Fees
Registration Fee: $100+HST per tour

- A seat in a 1x or 2x coastal rowing shell and oars
- A life jacket
- A picnic lunch with juice and water
- A safety boat with driver(s)
Cancelation / REfund Information
REFUNDS WILL ONLY BE ISSUED IF LYC Rowing cancels a 1-day Rowing Tour.
If LYC Rowing cancels one of the 1-day rowing tours for any reason, LYC Rowing will allow the participant to take part in another 1-day tour in 2025, or, if that is not possible, all fees paid to LYC Rowing for the Tour will be refunded. LYC and LYC Rowing will not be responsible for any costs related to travel, etc.
If a confirmed participant in one of LYC Rowing's 1-day Rowing Tours needs to cancel their registration for the Rowing Tour, their registration costs will be refunded as follows:
If LYC Rowing cancels one of the 1-day rowing tours for any reason, LYC Rowing will allow the participant to take part in another 1-day tour in 2025, or, if that is not possible, all fees paid to LYC Rowing for the Tour will be refunded. LYC and LYC Rowing will not be responsible for any costs related to travel, etc.
If a confirmed participant in one of LYC Rowing's 1-day Rowing Tours needs to cancel their registration for the Rowing Tour, their registration costs will be refunded as follows:
- if the cancelation is received more than 30 days prior to the day of the tour the full registration costs paid to LYC Rowing minus a $10 fee will be issued
- If the cancelation is received less than 30 days but more than 15 days prior to the day of the tour 50% of the full registration costs paid to LYC Rowing will be issued
- If the cancelation is received less than 15 days prior to the day of the tour no refund will be issued. The participant will be provided with an opportunity to participate in another 1-day tour in 2025 at a cost of $20.
